What is Talend?

Talend is the first provider of open source data integration software. Its main product is Talend Open Studio. It is an Open Source project for data integration based on Eclipse RCP that primarily supports ETL-oriented implementations and is provided for on-premises deployment as well as in a software-as-a-service (SaaS) delivery model. Talend Open Studio is mainly used for integration between operational systems, as well as for ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) for Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing, and for migration.

How to install Talend?

Step 1:- Download the latest version of Talend Open Studio for Data Integration or for Big Data from Talend website.

Step 2:- Once download is completed check the environment variables and if not set then set according to below given instructions.

Environment variable configuration: on Windows

Before installing Talend, you have to set the JAVA_HOME Environment variable:

• Define your JAVA_HOME environment variable so that it points to the JDK directory.
  If JDK path of your system is C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_67\
• Then set  JAVA_HOME environment variable to:C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_67

Environment variable configuration: on Linux

Before installing Talend, you have to set the JAVA_HOME and PATH environment variables:

1. Find the JDK home dir and export it in the JAVA_HOME environment variable.
   export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.7.0_67/
   export PATH=$JAVA_HOME:$PATH
2. Add these two lines at the end of the global profiles in the /etc/profile file or in the user profiles in the~/.profile file.

Step 3:-  As now environment variable is set so just copy the downloaded TOS
(Talend Open Studio ) zip file to location where you want to install and just unzip the file.

Once file is unzipped go to the directory like C:\TOS_DI-Win64-r118616-V5.5.1\ and click on
TOS_DI-win-x86_64.exe or TOS_DI-win-x32_86.exe executable file.

now click on Create button write project name for Example:-Talend then click finish select your project and click Open button, then click Skip button because now we don't want to connect with Talend Forge, then screen shows progress information and after this click on Start now button.

Once screen comes with Welcome to Talend Open Studio For Data Integration.Now here we can start creating our job.
